Here's why lotion does the skin more harm than good
It needs to be said: Most lotions are a waste of money.
I say this as someone who understands the intent behind selecting certain ingredients for the skin. We put on lotion to moisturize our skin and we expect the lotions we buy to include the ingredients to do that.
Here's where lotion falls short and why body butter is a better, more economical option.
Ingredients in lotion that dry out the skin
Imagine putting on lotion and ending up ashier than you were before. You've experienced this if you've ever used a low-quality lotion. We don't have to name names.
You should never choose a lotion based on how inexpensive it is. There is nothing stopping a company from selling you a bottle of product that actually does more harm than good. Check for these drying ingredients before you buy any lotion:
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Sodium lauryl sulfate
- Sodium laureth sulfate
- Salicylic acid
Common ingredients that irritate the skin
Many lotions also contain skin irritants that can leave you itchy instead of moisturized. Here are a few common irritants found in lotions on shelves today:
- Parabens-Many lotions and moisturizers list water as their first ingredient, which means they must add preservatives like parabens that have been linked to skin allergies.
- Fragrance-Perfumes and fragrances are harsh on the skin, especially for those with dry skin or eczema. Even lotions marked unscented likely include some fragrance to mask the chemical smell.
Our whipped body butter ingredients
Our body butters are made with only natural ingredients, meaning no chemicals, preservatives, or harsh fragrances. We use high-quality ingredients that the skin easily absorbs, leaving it shiny but not oily. Look at our ingredients list:
- Shea butter: Anti-inflammatory. Soothes, tones, and conditions the skin.
- Coconut oil: Reduces inflammation and helps to heal wounds. Also has antimicrobial properties that can help treat acne and protect the skin from harmful bacteria.
- Sunflower oil: A great source of vitamin E, rich in nutrients and antioxidants, and is effective for combatting acne, inflammation, general redness, and irritation.
- Essential oils: Pick from our line of hydrating oils that leave the skin healthy and glowing:
- Vanilla and cedarwood
- Lavender and geranium
- Cedarwood and sage
- Lemongrass and patchouli
- Orange patchouli and clove
- Jasmine and vanilla
