6 Herbs to heal any skin problem
We don’t call ourselves Herb’N Eden for nothing.
Herbs are the key ingredients in all of our products because they are scientifically proven to treat all types of skin challenges—from acne to rosacea. Yep, everything we need to reveal our clearest, healthiest skin tone is available from the Earth.
As a natural soap maker, I do tons of research into the healing properties of herbs and I can tell you there’s an herb for every skin condition. Some herbs have properties that soothe multiple skin challenges. Here are the top six I use in Herb’N Eden’s products and the benefits of adding them to your skincare routine.
Aloe Vera
This one is an easy no-brainer. Many of us grew up with an aloe vera plant in our homes to heal burn wounds and for other remedies. The gel in aloe vera leaves has soothing properties that help with eczema, acne, and breakouts. It’s also a rich moisturizer so it’s good for dry skin (try it as a face mask!).
Plantain
Plantain is a plant whose leaves and seeds are commonly used in medicine to treat cold symptoms, bladder infections, hemorrhoids, and eye irritations. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it good for treating skin conditions and irritations from bug bites. When you tear or crush the leaves and apply it directly to the skin, relief can be felt within minutes. Plantain has astringent properties that helps with skin tone. It also serves as a band aid as it creates a protective layer on a wound or bruise, reducing pain, and discomfort.
Turmeric
Turmeric is one of the most powerful herbs for skin challenges as it alleviates many issues. Turmeric is made of curcumin, which inhibits hyper-pigmentation in skin and naturally fades dark spots over time. When regularly used as a face mask or as a soap ingredient, its anti-inflammatory properties can calm acne breakouts, and its antibacterial properties remove acne-causing toxins. Turmeric also reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
Calendula
Extracted from marigold flowers, calendula is a gentle remedy for eczema, dry skin, and diaper rash. It’s also an antiseptic so it helps with treating wounds and preventing acne.
Chamomile
The same properties that make chamomile tea good for relaxing also makes chamomile good for the face. It calms irritated skin like rashes and eczema, often in products that also contain calendula.
Neem
Neem penetrates deeply into the skin with its nourishing properties to heal and reduce cracks caused by dry skin. It can help stimulate collagen production and improve elasticity, helping your skin stay youthful as you age. Its high vitamin E content also helps prevent free radicals from harming your skin. It also has skin-healing properties to reduce acne scars. Pregnant and nursing women beware: Neem penetrates through to the bloodstream and therefore can be passed to your baby. Avoid or use with caution.
Look for these ingredients as you add natural skin care products to your routine. All of our products are made with herbs as the main ingredient. Make the swap from commercial products and notice the difference.
